Key Staff

General Manager of FodderTech: Sue Korevaar
Sue has been a commercial hydroponic grower of tomatoes, capsicums, lettuce & herbs for the last 14 years and has been heavily involved with key Hydroponic industry bodies for the last 10 years. From 2000 - 2007 she was the President of the Hydroponic Farmers Federation (HFF) arguably the most comprehensive and cohesive grower group/network in Australia. Through the HFF and the national Hydroponic body, the AHGA (Australian Hydroponic Greenhouse Assoc ) Sue was a key facilitator in bringing national conferences into prominence, thereby providing vital technical, growing information to the hydroponic fraternity both here in Australia and overseas.

As a vocal supporter of hydroponic techniques via her written articles in Practical Hydroponics & Greenhouse magazine, newspaper articles, radio and regular grower and industry meetings, Sue said, "It is quite amazing to me that the Federal and State governments of this country have yet to recognise the vital contribution Hydroponic systems can make in the conservation of water."

She went on to say, "Here we are, smack in the middle of the worst drought in living Australian history and the State and National governments have yet to embrace how hydroponics can conserve water at almost unheard of rates. What other growing system in Agriculture today can grow $100 worth of produce only using 600 litres of water?

The importance of the FodderTech system is that it only uses recirculating water systems and can easily feed 100 head of cattle per day for as little as 700 litres of water."

HISTORY FODDERTECH
Before eco-ethics and environmentally friendly products & crops became items of interest and importance on consumer and corporate agenda's, Peter Doyle, the inventor and designer of the technology Fodder Systems, had an avid interest in trying to find a holistic solution for 'pesticide free, environmentally friendly food'. Peter visualised soil-less growing would provide the answer.

To Peter, hydroponic methods offered all the dynamics of certified organic produce grown in soil and used exactly the same trace elements. It is intensive farming, that is fungicide and pesticide free and crops are grown without synthetic fertilisers. Additionally hydroponic production is climate, weather & terrain independent.

Not satisfied with the hydroponic systems and methods that were available when he began growing herbs and vegetables commercially, Peter set about researching, developing techniques, methods and materials that inevitably found their way into the industry through the osmotic relationships he maintained with many leading suppliers. Consequently he is considered, by many, as a leading figure in the industry worldwide and an authority on NFT hydroponic system design.

Quite early on in his commercial venture, Peter thought about growing fodder [forage] using the same system he designed for growing herbs and vegetables.

It wasn't until Australia was caught in the throes of drought that Peter gave the fodder system more serious consideration as a solution for drought stricken farmers.

Water is one of the earth's most precious commodities. It is life giving. We rely on it for myriad reasons. The uppermost thought behind the design of the FodderTech System at the time of it's design was "how can fodder production be controlled to assist farmers during one of the worst droughts Australia has experienced. during drought, crops can't be grown, livestock can't be fed, livestock lose condition and die and farmers need to buy in water and fodder at enormous cost.

Peter set himself the task of designing a system that could lessen the effects of drought and provide ROI and a livelihood for farmers in short turn around. In 2002/3 the culmination of Peter's work saw his "Livestock Fodder Shed" system, as it was initially known.

Peter wasn't unique in thinking about growing crops using hydroponics as a basis. Many small business ventures, globally, have tried, and continue to try, to grow fodder hydroponically, however many of the current assortment of hydroponic fodder 'factories, containers and greenhouses' have imitated methods they think will be successful, without the research and expert knowledge required to actually make them work in the long term and on a continuous 24/7, 365 day basis.

Through several more name iterations along the way, and now with new commercial venture partner, Green Grass Pty Ltd, the FodderTech System as it stands today is a combination of commercial expertise, knowledge and experience, and the unique controlled environment method Peter designed into the system.

The FodderTech System is superior to, and has proven to succeed where alternatives fail.
